Highlights from the 2/27/08 meeting

-The next edition of the Beta Zeta will be coming out shortly after spring break so be on the lookout for that.

-No one is scheduled for the third Thursday lecture in March yet so if you know of anyone that might be interested or could be persuaded to give a talk please invite them to do so. We do have a talk scheduled for April's third Thursday lecture - more to come on that later.

-We have made some decisions on t-shirt designs so in the short future there will be an order for that you will fill out if you want one - more details to come.

-We need to do more recruiting

-Within the next few days an application form for 2 $250 field school scholarships will be posted here on the Blog.

Shirt Options

Our screenprinter has given us these prices for shirts with a one color design, printed front and back. All prices are prior to our markups, of course:
t-shirt $7.00
pocket t-shirt $10.00
long sleeve t $12.00
sweatshirt $20.00
hoodie (zip or pullover) $25.00
polo $15.00 to $25.00 depending on quality

All options come in sizes small to 2XL. Color options vary, so we will have to narrow down the color choices later when everyone has had the chance to look at the catalogue. We also need to decided whether to do a flat-rate markup or a percentage of the cost. These prices still apply even if we decide to use more than one design.

What T-Shirt Design do you want?

I'm opening this thread for people to vote on a design, so that we can hit the ground running on getting them made after the meeting later this month. All designs are subject to tweaking, but we need to know where to start.

Vote for one of the following (please put your name in the post so we make sure to count everyone):

1. Same design last year
2. Leonard Hall design
3. Globe mapped trophy
4. Dexter's favorite
5. Science it works, B$&@**@!
6. Grit and Mud
7. Other (you must supply a design if you vote this way)

All designs should be pictured below.
Please choose one so we can get them made soon.

Thanks,
Matt B.

Another Design

I've fallen way behind on designs, but here's one I put together from what Matt Belobraydic wanted to see:

I rather like it.

Humor continued...

Here is a possibility

I don't totally understand it but here is the description

Science: We finally figured out that you could separate fact from superstition by a completely radical method: observation. You can try things, measure them, and see how they work! Bitches.

The graph is data from the COBE mission, which looked at the background microwave glow of the universe and found that it fit perfectly with the idea that the universe used to be really hot everywhere. This strongly reinforced the Big Bang theory and was one of the most dramatic examples of an experiment agreeing with a theory in history -- the data points fit perfectly, with error bars too small to draw on the graph. It's one of the most triumphant scientific results in history.

... and the two men that predicted and observed the blackbody nature and anisotropy of the cosmic microwave background radiation were awarded the 2006 nobel prize in physics! go science!

T-shirts of the day: humor

I'll put both of these up today, mainly because they aren't really serious. Let me know what you think anyway and we can still play around with ideas.

1. (with thanks to Tanya's husband Colin). This would be on the back of the shirt, with the department logo on the front pocket.

2. This photograph has been in the AUG lounge for what seems like a very long time. I was thinking the photo itself on the front of the shirt and the message on the back with UND Geology and Geological Engineering. If you can't read it, it says "We have globe-mapped the trophy, we will keep you informed."
